This Privacy Policy describes how the cuHacking team at Carleton University ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the cuHacking website and portal ("Service").

  • Account information: name, email address, and profile data provided by your authentication provider (Google, GitHub, or LinkedIn)
  • Application data: information you submit in your hackathon application, including school, program, dietary restrictions, and emergency contact
  • Usage data: information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited and features used

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Process and review your hackathon application
  • Manage event logistics (check-in, team formation, hardware lending)
  • Communicate event-related updates and announcements
  • Ensure the safety and security of event participants
  • Improve the Service and future events

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a hosted database platform with encryption at rest and in transit. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. Access to user data is restricted to authorized cuHacking organizers.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: database hosting and authentication
  • Google, GitHub, LinkedIn: OAuth sign-in providers
  • Vercel: application hosting

Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing its use of your data.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share aggregated, non-identifying statistics with sponsors and partners. We will not share your personal data with third parties except as required by law or with your explicit consent.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for the duration of the event cycle and a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
